Getting to know your Practice Act

What are the Kansas laws regarding supervision of physical therapy assistants? If I have a temporary license, does another PT need to co-sign my notes? Is sharp debridement in the scope of practice for a physical therapist in the state of Kansas?

You can find the answers to these questions and more in the Kansas Physical Therapy Practice Act (formally known as the Kansas Statutes Annotated and Kansas Adminstrative Regulations Relating to the Practice of Physical Therapy). The Practice Act can be accessed on the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts website, www.ksbha.org. A PDF version of the Practice Act may be downloaded at http://www.ksbha.org/statutes/booklets/physicaltherapy.pdf. Remember, the Practice Act may be updated yearly (or more), so check frequently to make sure you have the most updated copy, and visit the KPTA and KSBHA website often to stay updated on changes. Read or re-read the Practice Act today and bookmark, print, or save it so it is available to you for quick and easy access any time you have a question about your practice.

What are bylaws and why do organizations have them?

Bylaws are the official rules and regulations enacted by an association or a corporation to provide a framework for its operation and management.
Bylaws
are adopted by the association members and assist the association to regulate the rights and duties of its officers and members.

Do you want to know the duties and qualifications of the KPTA officers and Board of Directors?
What quorum is needed for meetings for voting ?
How and when do we elect officers?

Bylaws can answer all of these questions for you.

When was the last time you read the Bylaws for the KPTA ?
They are posted on the KPTA Website under the Membership page.
Our bylaws were recently updated / approved last April.

If you have questions about our bylaws - you can contact Susan Willey, PT, MSM at mwilley@cox.net or 316-721-0354.
